Abstract

Socrates\' maieutics is a teaching method that we see every day in education medical and that to weigh of the time HE maintains current; is part of the method Socratic and was exposed in several works literary of disciples of Socrates. Is a method philosophical and thoughtful whose relevance is that it fosters critical thinking, improves the conception of new knowledge in students and residents of postgraduate studies, and facilitates the take of decisions surgical. Of such Thus, the Socratic method is a learning strategy, a form of discussion among peers and between teacher and students. It is essential to disseminate knowledge of this teaching method, which allows for the application of theoretical knowledge in clinical practice using reasoning, so that it may be widely used in modern medicine and surgery. Furthermore, its usefulness should be emphasized in the ethical aspects of the doctor-patient relationship, in patient and physician decision-making within a clinical context, and in the conception or emergence of new ideas through dialectics and reflective thinking.
