Abstract

From its pre-Socratic roots to contemporary philosophy, monist philosophy in the context of general surgery is based on understanding the patient as a whole. Monism has generated a conceptual framework that seeks to prioritize the individual above all else. their parts, which can be extremely useful in the medical-surgical context. ha identified Certain benefits of this holistic approach include improved doctor-patient relationships, more comprehensive clinical decision-making, and the integration of medical science within surgical technique. However, this approach has limitations that may arise in some healthcare settings. Adopting monistic principles can strengthen the training of general surgeons by incorporating the study of ethics, empathy, and philosophical reflection alongside the mastery of surgical skills.
